Curricular and Co-curricular

CURRICULAR & CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

  • Literary Activities

Activities such as Debates, Extempore Speeches, Poetry recitations, and Word games are conducted as part of the literary programme. Publishing wall magazines, college magazines, and newsletters fosters communication skills and creative writing. Every effort should be made to involve all student teachers in planning, organizing, and conducting these activities.

  • Cultural Activities

These may include organizing and participating in music, painting, dance, and concerts. To enhance appreciation for performing arts, renowned and folk artists can be invited. Street plays and dramas are also organized to enrich cultural exposure.

  • Residential Camp

A four-day residential camp in a rural or natural setting offers a valuable experience for student teachers. Participation in such camps contributes significantly to socialization and promotes teamwork, responsibility-sharing, and collaborative living.

  • Subject Clubs

Establishing various Subject Clubs encourages active participation and deeper engagement among student teachers. Clubs such as Science, Social Science, Nature, Mathematics, Film, and Literary Clubs can be formed. These clubs may organize field trips, discussions, quizzes, guest lectures, and other co-curricular activities that complement classroom learning and build organizational skills.

  • Games and Athletics

Sports and athletic events should be conducted throughout the academic year. Student teachers should be encouraged to actively participate. Inter-house or inter-class tournaments and athletic meets should be integral to the dynamic B.Ed programme.

  • Community Participation

To foster strong school-community relationships, teacher education institutions must equip student teachers with necessary skills. Activities like social forestry, pollution awareness campaigns, immunization drives, environmental education, and health and hygiene camps can help bridge the gap between schools and the community.

  • Teaching Practice and Internship

Teaching practice is a crucial component of teacher education, offering hands-on experience in real classroom settings. A 16-week continuous internship is organized in selected schools to provide practical exposure to the teaching-learning process.

  • S.U.P.W. Activities (Socially Useful Productive Work)

These activities are conducted to instill a positive attitude towards manual work and to nurture a spirit of social service among teacher trainees.

  • Thought for the Day

A daily motivational quote or message, “Thought for the Day,” should be displayed on the notice board. All students are encouraged to contribute regularly to this initiative.

  • Field Trips and Study Tours

Educational tours promote experiential learning, offering exposure to new places, cultures, and communities. They bridge theory and practice, enhancing cultural understanding. The college organizes various trips and tours tailored to the academic needs of different student groups.
